Rock music in the 80 and 90 had more or less reached its highest point until a new variant began to take shape and it is, emo music, whose only identification is in being, less chaotic and more melodic, with a rhythmic pulse. It has also been called "punk rock emotional" music.
Emo is a type of rock music but with a solid difference. Originally from Washington DC area in the 1990s, emo (emotional hardcore that means) the music has gained notoriety with the emergence of bands like One Last Wish, Embrace and Fire Party. Emo music has been compared to indie rock.
In the mid 90's, a Seattle-based band inspired by Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, tried to reinvent the melodic guitar orchestrations and adds a bit of harmonic melodies to it. Word began to travel of vibrations and sounds catchy new rock and indie emo emocore born. In Austin, Texas, computer experts also hit the Internet quickly and is used to spread the word on Internet forums punk-rock.
Originally, the sound took a while to catch because it was unknown, being largely associated with non-traditional instrumental arrangements (not verse, and then a chorus), but over time, bands like The Promise Ring, Weezer and Jimmy Eat World gradually worked the sound emo MTV airplay and the rest is history!
Emo music also spawned a subculture that is inherently punk-rock. Teens who attend concerts and cry emo "screamo" tight pants stained, dyed hair and torn jeans. This style has been widely associated with the appearance of the time in the 50's Frank Sinatra concerts, but has recently gone a step further. Gothic Emo adherents place looks like chalk white faces painted and hair dyed black nails. This "zombie" appearance, with Celtic crosses and jewelry has not been without its critics.
Parents and conservative politicians have called for the emo subculture, which is based on emo music, a cult especially when high school and college binge drinking culture associated with emo. Top rock star Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide has been widely linked to emo music culture.
