An anguished teenager wearing black shirts, black eyeglasses, tight pants and Converse shoes who listens to punk music loud and depressing. Usually, this is the image that comes to mind when "emo" is mentioned. But what really is emo? Is it just a trend among rebellious children who want to be unique? Emotional punk is that we often hear today? As fashionable as it is, many people still do not understand what emo really refers to the terminology.

As a subgenre of music, emo has its roots in the 1980's when punk rock bands, based in Washington DC, began experimenting with his music and his lyrics began to add more introspective and personal songs. During his concerts, emo bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace became so emotional that their fans coined "emo" as a way of describing their actions awakening. In the emo music scene, emo is generally defined as someone who goes against popular culture and traditions.
